We begin each meeting with a 40-minute silent meditation.
We start right at 7:00 p.m., so do plan to arrive a little early to get settled.
Beginners are warmly welcomed. Instruction is offered when requested by old or new practitioners. We recite and discuss the Buddhist precepts (guidelines for ethical behavior) every first Monday of the month.
Other Mondays we offer a talk or reading on the Buddha’s teachings and then discuss how we can apply them to our lives so that we may gain in wisdom, compassion and happiness. In 2017 we are reading After Buddhism by Stephen Bachelor on our own and discussing it after our meditation. Beginners may find the discussion difficult to follow as we are a group with many years of practice (we try to explain what may be confusing). For this reason we do recommend beginners check out our 5:30 group “Beginners’ Mind.”
We end each evening with a guided loving-kindness meditation.
There is no charge; though traditionally we offer a donation to cover costs. There is no need to register. We do not meet on major holidays or in inclement weather.
