Saturday, 11:00am-6:00pm: The Object of Attention
What are you mindful of? What do you meditate upon? This daylong program will explore the nature of the object in meditation. We will examine the meditation objects, and how we hold them, in order to strengthen both concentration and insight.
Sunday, 9:30am-5:0pm: Liberating Attitude
This program will explore liberation from the perspective of the attitudes and approaches that support the experience of release, peace, and awakening. The day will include instructions and dhamma teachings to nurture the development of mindfulness and loving kindness. This program is appropriate for new and experienced meditators.
Shaila Catherine is the founder of Bodhi Courses, an online Dhamma classroom (bodhicourses.org),and Insight Meditation South Bay, a Buddhist meditation center in Silicon Valley in California (imsb.org). She has been practicing meditation since 1980, accumulating more than eight years of silent retreat experience, and has taught internationally since 1996. Shaila studied with masters in India, Thailand, and Nepal, and also with the founders of western meditation centers. She completed a one year intensive meditation retreat with the focus on concentration and jhana, and authored Focused and Fearless: A Meditator’s Guide to States of Deep Joy, Calm, and Clarity. Since 2006 Shaila has been practicing under the direction of Venerable Pa-Auk Sayadaw. She authored Wisdom Wide and Deep: A Practical Handbook for Mastering jhana and Vipassana to help make this traditional approach to samdahi and vipassana accessible to western practitioners.
