THE DANA RETREAT

Why a retreat on a dana basis?
For 45 years the Buddha taught householders about the liberation he had discovered. He asked for nothing in return, and his teaching on generosity (dana), the merit and practice of giving, was the first on his list of teachings for lay followers.
Today we live in a transactional society. Everything we have and do has a dollar sign attached. And yet, the priceless teachings of the Buddha live on. For a small space of time, at a lovely Lake Tahoe location, we will honor the Buddha’s example and offer a retreat that you do not have to pay for. We already offer our Day-Long Retreats on a dana basis. Our community supports this and makes it happen through service and goodwill. Can we also accomplish this for a residential retreat? We think there are numerous community members who find the cost of a retreat daunting, though they would like to attend. Having a dana retreat we remove the barrier of cost.
We are encouraged and sponsored in this by Insight Retreat Center in Redwood, California. Their retreats are offered freely, as gifts to those who attend—there is no cost. Donations by those who attend make it possible to pass this gift forward to others who come on retreat. There will be a fund-raising event with Kim Allen of a half-day retreat on Zoom. All dana received will go towards the 2027 Summer Retreat which also will be taught by Kim.
