From Effort To Ease: A Daylong Meditation Retreat with John Travis
April 22, 2018 @ 2:30 am - 9:30 am
The Buddha emphasized over and over that it takes effort to follow the path of the Dharma. Yet, the ultimate result is about the nature of ease.
We use effort to see into the nature of a fearful and restless Mind/Heart. Then, using the fundamentals of insight – relaxing into the deepest recesses of our psyche – diminishing the power of anxiousness and dis-ease. Ultimately we find our own good heart and relaxed mind.
The day will be a continuation of yesterday emphasizing the simple discipline of walking and sitting. Resting with a good heart and unruffled mind. Seeing that when there is great ease there is also effortless freedom.
This retreat is suitable for beginning and experienced meditators.
John Travis has been a student of meditation since 1969. He undertook Senior Teacher Training with Jack Kornfield at Spirit Rock Meditation Center. After completion of his training he was ordained and given Dharma transmission in the vipassana tradition of Mahasi Sayadaw and Achaan Chaa, and authorized to teach vipassana.
John co-founded Mountain Stream Meditation Center at Nevada City, CA and continues to be the resident teacher. In addition, he is a senior teacher for Spirit Rock Meditation Center. He travels extensively, leading retreats all over the United States. www.johntravis.org
