Summer Residential Retreat with Kim Allen at Lake Tahoe
August 10 @ 3:00 pm - August 15 @ 1:00 pm
Crossing the Flood
Dharma Zephyr Summer Retreat
5 nights at Lake Tahoe
Teacher: Kim Allen
Description:
The Dharma path is sometimes likened to “crossing the flood”: A journey from one shore,
where we struggle with life, to a different shore, where we live at peace with the flow of life. In
between, we navigate the turbulent waters of our own body, mind, and heart, but we do so
with the assurance of a strong raft: Dharma practice, community, and teachings.
On this retreat, we will explore the beauty and depth of the Buddha’s teachings for crossing the
flood. They guide us toward both opening the heart and deepening wisdom, helping us to find
freedom and heartfulness all along our journey. This silent Insight retreat will include
meditation instructions, sitting and walking meditation, Dharma talks and practice discussions
with the teacher. It is suitable for both experienced and newer practitioners.
About the Teacher: Kim Allen has been practicing Insight meditation since 2003, and has trained intensively in the U.S. and Asia with cumulative years of silent retreat. She has practiced with primary teacher Gil Fronsdal and other Western teachers, Theravādan monastics, and a few Mahāyāna teachers, and now offers retreats, sutta study, and experiential Dharma engagement. A teacher and author, Kim aims to bring classical Dharma to a modern context and to encourage lay practitioners in fully living a life of Dharma. Her website is http://www.uncontrived.org. For information on her two dharma books, see: https://www.uncontrived.org/books.htm

Dana:
Dana is a Pali word meaning “generosity”. Considered priceless, the Buddha’s teachings have been given freely since the time of the Buddha. That 2500-year tradition continues today. In keeping with this tradition, teachers do not charge for their services, but are sustained by the generosity of their students. Registration fees cover only the operational expenses of the retreat. There is no expected amount, but you are encouraged to give generously to the extent you are able. There will be an opportunity to offer dana to the teacher, retreat manager, DZIMC, and Galilee staff at the end of the retreat.
COVID-19:
To care for all who attend our events, we ask that if you are sick (cold, cough, sore throat, runny nose, etc.) or have had a fever, vomiting or diarrhea in the 24 hours prior to an event, that you not attend the event.
You will be required to provide proof of a negative COVID antigen test (home test) taken within 48 hours of arriving at Camp Galilee. If possible take the test within 12 hours of arriving at the retreat. There will be a second testing on the third day of the retreat. If you have medical insurance or are on Medicare, free tests are available at most major pharmacies. DZIMC will have some tests at the check in.
