Class on How Buddhism Spread and Adapted
December 5, 2018 @ 10:30 am - 12:00 pm
The Buddha lived in what is now Northern India. Over the centuries it spread south to Sri Lanka, Thailand, Burma and Laos, north to Tibet, China, Korea, Japan and Viet Nam, and now has come to the west. In each new location Buddhism adopted some of the extant spiritual and/or cultural practices so that it looks quite different in different countries. We will explore the similarities and differences in the major types of Buddhism practiced today.
Join Kathy Schwerin and Angela Sullivan for the second of two stand-alone classes. Although prompted by our recent 5-week Introduction to Meditation series, anyone is welcome to attend. Class will include meditation, a lecture and plenty of time for questions and answers.
There is no need to pre-register and there is no charge; baskets are put out for attendees to support the teachers and Dharma Zephyr Insight Meditation Community.
